Installation

Purchasing the Modular Workspaces product will give you access to two main files: a .blend file to add to your asset library, and a .zip file for installing the addon.

You do not need to use the included .blend asset library file to make use of the addon. It can unpack any collection assets from your own custom asset libraries. The included .blend file in this package contains my personal collection of starter-file presets which you can use and adapt to speed up your own workflow. All of the included assets have been given unique color-coded icons to represent the type of data they contain. This will be explained in more detail below.

1) The .blend Asset Library File

Modular Workspaces (Library).blend

Once downloaded, this file must be placed in one of your asset library folders.

⭐ With version 1.4.0, I have also included a .zip version of the asset library (Modular Workspaces (Library).zip). This contains a folder that you can extract and link to in your user preferences.

What's the difference between using the .blend version of the asset library and the .zip version? The .zip version contains a folder that includes a text file that describes the categories for the asset browser.

2) The .zip Addon File

Modular-Workspaces (Addon).zip

The downloaded zip file containing the Modular Workspaces addon must be installed using Edit - Preferences - Addons - Install.

See the following page for more information if you bump into any issues:

You may also install the addon manually by extracting the addon files to the scripts / addons directory in Blender’s AppData, but I would only recommend doing this if you know exactly what you are doing.

You will know the addon has been installed correctly when you can see the ‘Modular Workspaces’ tab in the ‘N’ sidebar (press N while hovering the mouse in the 3D view to open / close this sidebar).

When clicking on the tab, you will see a series of panels - Setups, Interface and Information. These contain the basic functionality for the addon.

Note: Screenshots on this documentation page may be out of date. Extra features and parameters may have been added since this was written, so don’t worry if your interface looks slightly different.

Finding the Content

Once you have installed the Modular Workspaces addon and placed the asset blend file - Modular Workspaces (Library).blend - inside one of your own asset libraries, you should be good to go!
